Qualifications
  • Basic qualification accredited by the South African Nursing Council (Diploma/Degree in Nursing as a Professional Nurse or equivalent).
  • Minimum 7 years of appropriate/recognisable experience in general nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse.
  • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council.
  • Post‑basic qualification in Nursing education.
  • Post‑basic qualification in Health Services Management/Nursing Administration registered with SANC (optional).
  • Computer literacy is an advantage.
  • Experience in nursing education or clinical teaching environments, especially in medicine and psychiatric departments, is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Ideal Hospital Realization and Maintenance Framework v2.0 and related legal frameworks (Nursing Act, OHS Act, Patient Rights Charter, Batho Pele Principles, Public Service Regulations, Labour Relations Act).
  • Skills: leadership, organisational, decision‑making, problem‑solving, financial and budgetary knowledge, nursing care policy procedures, stakeholder interaction, verbal and written communication, report writing, interpersonal skills including conflict management and counselling.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate optimal, holistic specialised nursing care with set standards and within a professional/legal framework in the critical care unit.
  • Manage supervision and utilisation of resources (human, material) and monitor service delivery.
  • Coordinate student placement and internal training.
  • Provide effective training and research opportunities.
  • Maintain professional growth, ethical standards and self‑development.
  • Advocate for patient‑centred care and ensure adherence to Batho Pele principles.
  • Contribute to education and professional development of students and colleagues.
  • Facilitate training and development of nursing professionals and build capacity within the Clinical Support FBU.
  • Monitor and evaluate training programmes, service quality, SOPs and quality programmes.
  • Comply with the performance management and development system.
