Qualifications

  • Registered as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
  • Experience working in a Cath Lab or specialised cardiac environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of general and specialised nursing theory and practice.
  • Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices.
  • Strong clinical assessment, patient care and emergency response skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care, safety and professional conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document individualised, holistic nursing care.
  • Provide advanced nursing care within the specialised Cath Lab environment in accordance with nursing standards, SOPs and medical direction.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to nursing personnel and support the delivery of effective patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, medical practitioners and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
  • Act as a patient advocate and ensure continuity of care throughout the patient journey.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary healthcare planning, treatment implementation and patient reviews.
  • Develop and maintain individualised nursing care plans based on patient needs.
  • Initiate and maintain emergency treatment and resuscitation procedures when required.
  • Complete accurate shift documentation reflecting patient status, staffing requirements and clinical concerns.
  • Provide input into the development and implementation of patient care policies and procedures.
  • Promote a safe, clean and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors.
  • Monitor the safe and effective utilisation of nursing supplies and equipment.
  • Participate actively in quality and risk management initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with other hospital departments to provide effective patient support services.
  • Support ongoing education, mentoring, orientation and in-service training of nursing staff and students.
  • Facilitate the review and implementation of emergency procedures and updated clinical practices.
  • Allocate nursing staff according to patient acuity, clinical requirements and available skills.
  • Maintain effective communication and professional relationships within the unit and multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and remain up to date with relevant nursing policies, procedures and practices.
  • Support the adoption and effective use of electronic patient records, e-scripts, clinical orders and digital healthcare solutions.
