Position Overview

Class III Process Controller – An EME based in Pretoria East, Waltloo is looking for an experienced Class III Process Controller to join their team.

Minimum Requirements

• N6 wastewater treatment works certificate or National Diploma in Chemical Engineering / Water Care / Analytical Chemistry / Chemistry / Process Engineering and Classification certificate
• Minimum of 7 years post‑qualification
• Experience related to wastewater treatment plant operation and maintenance

Skills and Competencies

• Understanding of the principles of physical, chemical, and biological wastewater treatment
• Strong knowledge of water quality and regulation
• Proficiency with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program and other local/state regulations
• In‑depth knowledge of the specific unit processes at their plant
• Ability to interpret process control parameters such as pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS), chemical oxygen demand (COD) / biological oxygen demand (BOD), etc.
• Understanding of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), SCADA systems, and how automation controls the treatment process
• Knowledge of safe handling, dosing, and storage of treatment chemicals
• Ensuring health and safety codes are obeyed at all times
• Excellent leadership and people‑management skills
