Job summary

Placements24 seeks a proactive Civil Design Engineer to join the Paarl municipal infrastructure team. You will design and implement water, sanitation, and road networks for public works projects to improve residents' quality of life.

You will collaborate with municipal planning, regulatory authorities and external stakeholders to deliver sustainable infrastructure, while ensuring compliance with bylaws and SANS, and supporting ECSA registration efforts.

Qualifications

• BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering.
• ECSA registration as Pr Eng or Candidate Engineer (towards it).
• 4+ years in civil design engineering with municipal focus.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and water/sanitation design software.

Responsibilities

• Design construction drawings and specs for municipal water, sewer, and roads.
• Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS, bylaws and environmental regs.
• Assist tender processes including BOQs and evaluations.
• Provide construction phase support and review contractor submissions.
• Coordinate with clients, authorities and community stakeholders.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive Civil Design Engineer to join their municipal infrastructure team based in Paarl. This role is focused on the design and implementation of public works projects that enhance the quality of life for residents, including water, sanitation, and road networks. You will collaborate closely with municipal planning departments and external stakeholders to deliver sustainable and efficient infrastructure solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Design and prepare construction drawings and specifications for municipal infrastructure projects, such as water reticulation, sewer networks, and access roads.
• Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and prepare technical reports for proposed projects.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant municipal bylaws, South African National Standards (SANS), and environmental regulations.
• Assist in the tendering process, including the preparation of bills of quantities and tender evaluations.
• Provide technical support during the construction phase, responding to site queries and reviewing contractor submissions.
• Liaise with clients, regulatory authorities, and community representatives throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

• BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering.
• ECSA registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Candidate Engineer working towards it.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience in civil design engineering, with a focus on municipal infrastructure.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and relevant water/sanitation design software.
• Good understanding of municipal infrastructure planning and project delivery processes in South Africa.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
