Job Description

To produce accurate design documents that will ensure successful project execution.

Project Life Cycle
  • Develop a discipline strategy and design criteria to suit unique project/client requirements.
  • Adhere to the project program.
  • Ensure planning of activities are regularly monitored and updated to achieve project deliverables timeously.
  • Expedite technical information through continuous engineering input to external and internal stakeholders.
  • Attend relevant project meetings and produce regular project status reports.
  • Generate post-project feedback.
  • Produce cost‑effective and safe civil/structural designs, tender and project civil/structural designs.
  • Compare and assess project vs tender scope, review alternatives and cost effectiveness.
  • Produce quantity and man‑hour budgets and associated scope list.
  • Work closely with scope, quantity budget, and man‑hour budget.
  • Understand project scope, quantity allowances and man‑hour budget.
  • Monitor changes to scope and effects to quantity & man‑hour budget, ensure authorisation to changes and compliance with quantity allowances.
  • Verify civil/structural engineering software packages.
  • Be fully conversant with restrictions and qualifications of software.
  • Order of magnitude check of analysis results.
Administration
  • Maintain an effective record‑keeping system for calculations, correspondence and technical information.
  • Indexing, records, design criteria and calculations.
  • Referencing to location of software input, numbers, dates and signatures.
Client Relations (Internal & External)
  • Interact efficiently with Drawing Office and other departments.
  • Guide and liaise with Drawing Office and provide engineering, safety and ergonomic input during conceptual layout phase and ongoing assistance during engineering stage.
  • Ongoing review of internal circulation drawings and timely approval of final drawings for construction.
  • Provide continual engineering input to suppliers and sub‑contractors.
  • Inter‑departmental interaction.
  • Understand and respond to needs of other disciplines.
  • Adopt customer‑orientated approach.
  • Coordinate delivery of information.
  • Adhere to company specifications, guidelines and statutory codes of practice.
Safety
  • Apply global SHE standards and ensure compliance.
Quality
  • Regularly review and contribute towards improvement of procedures and systems.
  • Ensure all QA procedures and guidelines are followed in all daily activities.
  • Participate in quality assurance audits.
Systems and Procedures
  • Ensure adherence to the internal Project Management Operating System.
  • Apply and review associated discipline Engineering Standards.
  • Approve all drawings issued for construction by signing, dating and including the engineer/technologist's professional registration number.
  • Provide suggestions for improving internal work methods, procedures and technological solutions on an ad‑hoc basis, according to customer's needs.
Qualifications
  • B.Sc./B.Eng./B. Tech graduate, registered or in a position to register as a professional engineer within months of joining SGS Bateman.
  • 2–5 years of experience in engineering design and project management within processing or petrochemical plant projects environment.
  • Project management knowledge of basic project management methods and all project life cycle phases.
  • Experience in civil & structural design criteria development and improvement.
  • Commercial principles understanding.
