Job summary

A global mining client is seeking an experienced Chief Safety Officer based in Limpopo, South Africa. The successful candidate will implement and monitor safety control systems according to organizational and legislative requirements. Candidates should have a degree in Occupational Safety and at least 10 years of mining experience, with 5 years in a safety leadership role. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South Africans (HDSA) from local communities. Applications are only accepted from South African citizens and permanent residents.

  • Experience performing internal workshop/site inspections and participating in HSEQ management system audits.

Job description

An exciting opportunity exists with ourglobal mining client for an experiencedChief Safety Officer based inLimpopo.

The successful candidate will be responsible for applying and monitoring the application of Safety control systems and procedures according to organisational and legislative requirements. Managing the execution of activities, that the Safety Function is accountable for (e.g., OH&S system assurance, Safety management system, incident prevention, investigations) as by the MHSA Regulation 2.17 and 2.19 mandatory, utilising the process as determined by the Company. Supporting the deployment of improvement initiatives defined by the Function and Operations.

Minimum Requirements
  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Safety / Risk / Engineering Management
  • Project Management and Auditors Certificate
  • Incident investigation skills and techniques (ICAM/RCAT/SCA
  • 10 years mining experience, of which 5 years’ must be in a capacity of a Chief Safety Officer
  • Experience performing Internal workshop/site inspections and participate in HSEQ management system audits
  • Emergency preparedness and response management knowledge and experience in the mining/construction Sector
  • Experience in developing, implementing, managing, Auditing Safety and Risk Control initiatives, programmes in risk management reports compilation, reporting and monitoring
  • Valid Driver's license
Key Performance Areas
  • Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Experience performing Internal workshop/site inspections and participate in HSEQ management system audits.
  • C-MIRM operational risk management knowledge and experience of system development and implementation
