Role Purpose: Partner with stakeholders to provide trusted and valued risk management, legal and compliance services that advance the business' strategy and balance risk and reward, while challenging the business to manage risks better and enhance the company’s reputation with all stakeholders.

Responsibilities and work outputs

• Executive responsible for risk, solvency and capital management, actuarial control function support, compliance, market conduct, ombudsman and regulatory complaints, as well as corporate legal and governance (including company secretarial services).
• Formulation and embedment of the company’s sustainability strategy.
• Fulfil the statutory role as head of the risk control function of Momentum Insure.
• Stay abreast of legislation and best practices in risk, legal and compliance; influence business strategy and culture.
• Foster relationships with regulators and industry bodies; stay informed about regulatory changes and industry best practices.
• Formulate and influence risk strategy and risk appetite with measurement, monitoring and reporting tools; contribute to the organisation's Risk strategy.
• Provide insights on risk drivers to improve management responsiveness and decision-making.
• Oversee and advise the Board, Audit and Risk Committee, and senior management on risk and regulatory matters.
• Foster a risk-aware culture integrated into business practices through communication and education.
• Establish risk management processes including identification, assessment, monitoring, management and reporting of key risks.
• Manage identification and investigation of material risks with the risk community.
• Direct and oversee risk, legal and compliance framework implementation; ensure alignment with risk appetite.
• Assess and improve risk management framework, risk appetite, strategy and controls; drive enhancements.
• Maintain aggregated view of current and evolving risk profile.
• Coordinate, execute and mature ORSA process; report ORSA outcomes and material risk exposures and mitigations.
• Report on effectiveness of risk management; identify improvements; oversee solvency and capital adequacy.
• Contribute to enterprise-wide risk governance, policies and frameworks; ensure integration across the group.
• Oversee stress testing and scenario analysis; ensure results inform strategy and planning.
• Develop risk and compliance governance structures; foster partnerships across the business for integrated risk management.
• Provide executive management with risk and compliance advice; offer consultative support to assess, prioritise and mitigate risks.

Client

• Build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders; benchmark and network externally.
• Define fair and innovative client service practices to deliver exceptional client service.
• Engage with stakeholders to identify changing client needs; align service offerings accordingly.
• Implement client service level agreements and standards; ensure clear and accurate information for clients.
• Incorporate client feedback into daily processes and management systems.

• Continuously train and develop the Legal, Risk and Compliance team; foster a culture of learning and collaboration.
• Provide leadership to energise and empower employees; manage performance to achieve objectives.

Finance

• Control the budget for area; enforce financial regulations and pursue cost effectiveness and efficiency.
• Identify and manage financial risks; monitor and report on financial activities.

Skills and qualifications

• Postgraduate degree in Risk Management, Compliance or Legal, or Actuarial/Accounting Science (FASSA or CA(SA)); IRMSA registration preferred.
• 10–12 years’ experience in risk management or compliance within financial services or non-life insurance; 5–8 years at senior management/executive level.
• Experience as Head of a Control Function preferred.
• Strategic and tactical thinking, business acumen, strong interpersonal skills, project management.
