Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Pepkor's Financial Services division is seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to help define and build financial processes and governance, whilst at the same time providing financial rigor, leadership, governance, and direction to the organisation.

The CFO will play a critical role in shaping the financial strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving sustainable growth in line with the Financial Services division vision and values.

This is a Greenfield initiative, requiring someone comfortable with building from scratch, navigating regulatory approvals, and scaling operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Define, build and implement financial governance, controls and processes.
  • Provide strategic financial leadership and guidance to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies to support business growth, profitability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Oversee financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance management processes.
  • Ensure compliance with banking regulatory reporting, IFRS, tax legislation, and governance requirements.
  • Manage capital adequacy, liquidity, and funding requirements in line with Prudential Authority guidelines.
  • Drive financial risk management and implement effective internal controls.
  • Lead investor relations, stakeholder engagement, and reporting for shareholders, regulators, and analysts.
  • Direct the preparation of accurate, timely financial and management reports.
  • Provide leadership and development to the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, excellence, and innovation.
  • Partner with business units to evaluate new opportunities, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with technology teams to ensure financial systems and controls align with digital financial operations.
  • Support the raising and optimisation of capital requirements needed to support the operations of the organisation and its future strategies.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Chartered Accountant (CA (SA)) qualification is essential.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive financial leadership experience, with at least 8 years at executive or senior management level.
  • Proven track record as a CFO or senior finance executive in the banking or broader financial services sector.
  • Deep knowledge of South African banking regulations, prudential reporting requirements, IFRS, and corporate governance standards.
  • Strong understanding of capital markets, treasury, risk management, and funding structures.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to influence and engage at all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to champion a culture of innovation, agility, and compliance within a fast-paced start-up environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills.
