Job summary

A manufacturing company in KwaZulu-Natal is seeking a Level Two Chemline Operator to apply chemical conversion coatings to metal parts. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of experience, a high school diploma (or GED), and basic computer skills. Responsibilities include monitoring milling operations, maintaining equipment, and ensuring safety guidelines are followed. The position is for the 2nd shift, Monday through Thursday, from 2:00 pm to 12:30 am.

Qualifications

  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain job assignments from supervisor.
  • Work safely in accordance with plant safety guidelines.

  • Complete logs and records including measurements.
  • Maintain equipment and work area in a clean condition.
  • Perform daily housekeeping activities.

Position Summary

Under minimal supervision, level two chemline operators will successfully apply chem-treat (chemical conversion coatings) to metal details and subassembly parts, and perform various support functions for the chemline processing department. Level two chemline operators shall be competent in various racking techniques, manual and tank chem-treat applications, etching and other pre cleaning operations. Level two chemline operators will also be expected to maintain terminal equipment in good working order throughout the production cycle such as repair and replacement of racking components, and strip (remove) coating from racking equipment as necessary.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Obtain job assignments from supervisor or manager.
  • Work safely in accordance to plant safety guidelines including cardinal rules of safety.
  • Correctly interpret work orders
  • Reviews Technique Cards and paperwork.
  • Monitors milling operations; calculates etch rate and modified bath times accordingly.
  • Completes logs and records, including measurements, calculations, chemical additions and milling times.
  • Meets all production and quality standards.
    Work in a team environment, i.e. follow instructions and assist others as needed.
  • Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition
  • Perform daily housekeeping / 6S activities as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED desired but not required.
  • 1-2 Years of Experience required.
Work Schedule

(2nd Shift)

  • Monday through Thursday 2:00 pm to 12:30 am.
Work Environment
  • Continuously required to move about the facility.
  • Ability to lift up to 35lbs.
  • Requires hand manipulation including simple grasping, pushing and pulling of materials.
  • Exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes, odors and temperature variations.
  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including eye and hearing protection, and safety shoes.
