About the Role

Our client, a respected manufacturer of high-purity fine chemicals, is looking for a dedicated Chemical Engineer to enhance their production operations in Polokwane, Limpopo, ZA. This role involves optimizing existing manufacturing processes, supporting new product introductions, and ensuring consistent product quality and operational efficiency. You will work closely with production teams, quality control, and R&D to achieve manufacturing excellence. The successful candidate will have a solid grounding in chemical engineering principles and experience in batch chemical production. This hybrid position allows for flexibility while maintaining crucial on-site presence for operational oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Optimize batch chemical manufacturing processes for yield, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
• Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Support the scale-up and validation of new fine chemical products and processes.
• Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and batch manufacturing records.
• Monitor key process parameters and ensure adherence to quality specifications.
• Collaborate with the quality assurance team to address deviations and ensure cGMP compliance where applicable.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
• Participate in process hazard analyses (PHAs) and ensure safety protocols are followed.
• Maintain accurate production records and assist in process performance reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment, preferably in fine or specialty chemicals.
• Strong understanding of batch processing, reaction engineering, and separation techniques.
• Experience with process control systems and data analysis.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental compliance in chemical manufacturing.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a hybrid setting.
• Experience with process simulation software is a plus.
