Job summary

Anglo American in Rosebank, Gauteng, is seeking a Category Advisor (Mining Equipment) to support commercial activities for a portfolio of categories and deliver improved business performance through supplier partnering and innovative contracts.

You will develop category strategies, execute sourcing and contracting activities, manage supplier performance, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to optimise value while upholding Safety, Health and Environment standards.

Job Description

As Category Advisor (Mining Equipment) your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Safety, Health, and Environment:

• Identify ways to support specific safety, health, and sustainability opportunities and risks and ensure transactional purchasing activities comply with all Safety, Health, and environmental requirements.
• Ensure the safe operation of the commercial environment, performing regular risk assessments and raising any risks/issues immediately

General:

• Embrace an agile Supply Chain by being adaptive and flexible to accommodate and focus on emerging and changing business priorities.

Commercial Value Delivery and Supplier Partnering:

• Support the development of category, sourcing, and contracting strategies and plans through data gathering and analysis, and responsibly execute allocated sourcing and contracting activities.
• Maintain relationships with strategic suppliers to drive step change in value and deliver innovative solutions that position Anglo American as a partner of choice.
• Optimise value through innovation, risk mitigation and growth throughout the relationship life cycle.
• Follow a set of global standards for suppliers and contractors to enable delivery in a safe and socially acceptable way and ensure that the organisation sources from responsible suppliers.
• Support the implementation of commercial strategies to support business needs and improve value delivery.
• Adhere to value creation and supplier engagement strategies that align with the global Supply Chain strategy, critical tasks, performance targets and business priorities.

Planning:

• Actively track commercial dashboard KPIs (e.g., cycle times, contract coverage, category/supplier/ contractor performance, etc) and proactively address and elevate issues.
• Provide support with the development of category strategies through the analysis and gathering of data.
• Identify, enable and track value and inclusive procurement opportunities, commercial initiatives and specific resource requirements.

Sourcing and Contracts Management:

• Compile and execute allocated sourcing events, contracting and contract management (including administration), supplier/contract performance management and initiative management.
• Support with effectively executing contracts, administrative duties like price files, variations and amendments.
• Implement value delivery plans for routine and tactical sourcing & contracting and contractor management activities.
• Execute effective and efficient commercial activities relating to corporate, regional or BU contracts in a timely and value-driven manner, including timely and accurate capturing of price updates for contracts in the system.
• Create proactive visibility and continuous improvement of the sourcing and contracts pipeline related to the allocated portfolio.
• Regular, timely and accurate reporting of routine and tactical sourcing & contracting activities
• Implement value opportunities and mitigate risks of the portfolio.

Commercial Agreements:

• Support a culture of Sustainable Value through ESG, TCO initiatives, innovation, working capital, and cost reduction. Implement sustainable value creation strategies, initiatives, and associated business cases that advance Anglo Americans' technical, community, sustainability, and financial ambitions.
• Build and maintain relationships with suppliers to drive change in value and deliver innovative solutions.
• Provide support regarding supplier performance management of select suppliers and address escalated issues.

Inclusive Procurement:

• Support input to and delivery against inclusive procurement and commercial plans to ensure targets are met against scheduled milestones.
• Understand community-specific needs and identify value creation opportunities.
• Drive a culture of community development and inclusive procurement with stakeholders aligned with the global and regional Inclusive Procurement strategies.
• Execute and adhere to an Inclusive Procurement programme that will increase host community commercial participation and support the development of thriving communities.

Sustainability and Social:

• Support a culture of Sustainable Value through ESG, TCO initiatives, innovation, working capital and cost reduction.
• Provide support with implementing sustainable value creation strategies, initiatives , and associated business cases that advance Anglo American's technical, community, sustainability, and financial ambitions.
• Build and maintain relationships with suppliers to drive step change in value and deliver innovation. solutions

Supply Chain Excellence:

• Adopt new ways of working and systems usage within the team regarding suppliers and key stakeholders.
• Support Supply Chain Managers and Company Representatives in implementing and operationalising active contracts.
• Identify opportunities for improved ways of working and enhanced commoditised execution.

Governance and Compliance:

• Comply with standards, designated system, governance, ethical and legal requirements.
• Carry out activities in compliance with internal Anglo American and Supply Chain Governance requirements for all team members and all Sourcing & Contracting activities.

This role is in Supply Chain department on a Band 6 (D-Lower) level reporting to the Category Lead Mining Equipment.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 Certificate / N3 Technical
• National Diploma in Supply Chain/Logistics Management/Procurement or a relevant discipline on NQF6.
• A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain/Logistics Management/Procurement or a relevant discipline on NQF7 is preferred
• SA Drivers Licence: Code B (Light Vehicle)

Technical Knowledge

• 3-5 years of relevant experience with sound technical knowledge across the Supply Chain value chain and its components.
• Knowledge of sourcing strategies, contracting frameworks, and related legal considerations.
• Familiarity with integrating Commercial, Procurement, Supplier Management, and Purchasing principles and practices.
• Awareness of safety standards, sustainability frameworks, and inclusive procurement policies within supply chain operations.
• Understanding of business case development methodologies and commercial analysis techniques.
• Knowledge of negotiation principles, strategies, and best practices
• Understanding of Supplier Relationship Management concepts and frameworks.
• Awareness of systems thinking concepts and their application in supply chain analysis and decision-making.
