Role Purpose
The CAT Teacher will deliver high-quality instruction in Computer Applications Technology for Grades 10–12, aligned to the CAPS curriculum, equipping learners with essential digital literacy, productivity software skills, and problem-solving abilities. The role includes curriculum planning, assessment, learner support, and active contribution to the school’s technology-driven learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Teach CAPS-aligned CAT curriculum for Grades 10–12, covering:
- Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases, Presentations
- Internet and Network Concepts
- ICT Ethics and Security
- Integrate practical, hands‑on learning using industry‑standard software (e.g., MS Office Suite).
- Foster digital fluency, critical thinking, and responsible technology use.
- Incorporate 21st‑century skills and real‑world applications into lessons.
Assessment & Reporting
- Design and administer valid assessments (projects, practical tasks, tests, and exams) per CAPS requirements.
- Mark and moderate learner work accurately and timeously.
- Prepare examination papers and memoranda; participate in departmental moderation.
- Provide constructive feedback and compile progress reports.
Curriculum & Departmental Contribution
- Contribute to departmental planning, resource development, and technology integration strategies.
- Maintain up‑to‑date teaching resources and ensure computer labs are functional and secure.
- Stay current with curriculum updates and emerging ICT trends.
Pastoral Care & Co‑Curricular
- Support learner wellbeing and positive discipline.
- Assist with technology‑related co‑curricular activities (e.g., coding clubs, ICT competitions).
- Promote digital citizenship and online safety.
Compliance & Governance
- Adhere to school policies on child safeguarding, health & safety, and data protection (POPIA).
- Maintain SACE registration and professional conduct standards.
- Complete administrative tasks and contribute to whole‑school duties.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education (BEd) or PGCE with a relevant qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, or ICT.
- SACE registration (or eligibility).
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) teaching CAT in the FET Phase (Grades 10–12) with strong CAPS knowledge.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and related applications.
- Strong understanding of ICT concepts, ethics, and security.
Advantageous
- Familiarity with IEB assessment standards.
- Experience in teaching IT (Information Technology) or coding as an additional subject.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies and digital learning platforms.
- Experience in independent schooling context.
