Job description
ABOUT THE ROLE:

Located in Verulam, Kwa Zulu Natal

To assist medical personnel in the care of patients in Verulam. The role also includes administrative duties and assisting with accurate record keeping of machine disinfection records. The correct uniform must be always worn, which will be supplied by the dialysis centre.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve tea/coffee/meals: due to nature of unit, there is no specific time for this, the patients are to be offered refreshments once they have been connected to the machine - this includes their meals.
  • Assist the Technologist/Nurse in the unit with all procedures, including preparation of machines, stripping of machines and cleaning of treatment area.
  • Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting Healthcare workers during the performance of procedures as needed.
  • Assist with changing linen between patients.
  • Thoroughly clean the unit floor with the appropriate chemicals after the general completion of each shift and mop up any spillages etc.
  • The unit must always be clean and tidy, no paper, caps, dust or any rubbish allowed on the floor and/or counters at any time.
  • Twice a week, machines must be moved forward, and the floors should be cleaned. During this time the pipes and the bottom of the beds/chairs should be wiped for dust.
  • When removing medical waste from the unit, remove the bin to the back and then remove there bag, do not remove the red bag from the bin inside the unit and ensure proper PPE is worn when handling medical waste.
  • All dustbins should be emptied and cleaned daily using RBT spray.
  • Assist with checking stock levels, record low level stock in the communication book and report to the Unit Manager as soon as possible. Do not wait for stock to run-out before order can be placed.
  • Inform the Unit Manager if you are sick or unable to work. When sick you are required to submit a sick note from a Healthcare Professional.
  • Sharps bins must be cleaned with RBT spray daily and changed when filled to the level indicated on the container and ensure proper PPE is worn.
  • Assist with managing and monitoring the waste removal by 3rd party medical waste removal company.
