Job summary

A leading independent high school in Cape Town seeks an experienced teacher for a full-time role starting in January 2026. The successful candidate will teach Social Sciences for Grades 7-9 and English for Grades 10-12, with a focus on personalized, self-directed learning. CTTH is an independent international high school, registered with the WCED, situated in Gardens, Cape Town. We require an experienced teacher to join our dynamic team in January 2026 who is fully qualifi ed to teach in a South African high school and is registered with SACE.

Aim of the school

Our school is cutting edge in that we prescribe to a personalised, self-directed educational philosophy. We keep our classes small and personalise each student’s educational road-map. We encourage our students to be self-motivated, self-starters who ask, explore and understand, and we believe that this approach to education ensures our students learn at their own pace, are positioned at their ability level, and in so doing ensure that they do not fall behind due to conceptual/knowledge gaps but rather achieve their own personal best across all subjects.

As part of a small team of teachers, the successful candidate will need to fulfi l the role of teacher/mentor to students, teaching primarily through one-on-one interaction in their fi eld of expertise, as well as in other subject areas as needed to support the school’s timetable. Due to the nature of independent learning, the successful candidate needs to be competent in the administration and management of the students’ projected schedule and progress, keeping them accountable to an acceptable pace and level of achievement. Furthermore, we look for a teacher who brings excitement and a love of learning to the classroom, as well as leadership, with teaching that supports our philosophy.

We require a teacher for a full-time permanent position who is equipped to teach Grade 7 – 9 Social Sciences and Grade 10 – 12 English. Experience in teaching IT, Economics, PE or Art in these grades would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

Middle School: Grade 7 – 9 Social Sciences courses are created by our team of teachers. Teaching for these grades involves:

  • Gaining mastery in all the subject matter across all grade levels.
  • Teaching subject coursework to single grade level groups and on a one-on-one basis at student specifi c ability levels.
  • Managing students’ weekly deadlines to ensure they cover the coursework within the allotted time per term.
  • Marking and recording all work timeously within 24 hours.
  • Remediating and extending students as needed.
  • Providing regular feedback to students on their assessments.

High School: Our High School Students are all working towards their American High School Diploma. Teaching for these grades involves:

  • Becoming familiar with all English courses from UNHS and CTTH.
  • Facilitating specifi c elective courses, as allocated, to support the timetable.
  • Providing the necessary teacher support and explanation of coursework.
  • Managing students’ course deadlines to ensure they cover the coursework, Unit Evaluations, Projects, and Progress Tests within the allotted time per semester.
  • Preparing students for the South African NBT and College Board SAT Tests in their Grade 12 year.

Additional responsibilities

  • On campus during school hours: 08:00 to 15:30.
  • Weekly update of marking and assessment schedules.
  • Compile year-end transcripts and write termly reports.
  • Attend daily staff meetings.
  • Attend termly parent/teacher evenings.
  • Arrange outings relating to curricular requirements.

  • Time and stress management, imparting this to students.
  • Strong organisational skills, being adaptable and able to multitask.
  • Excellent communication skills, as well as being student and parent oriented.
  • An ability to inspire, comfort and build self-esteem.
  • An ability to listen and respond to management, staff, students and parents.
  • Excellent computer skills, across a variety of devices and programmes including sound knowledge of the Google Suite.
