Job Purpose

The role of the incumbent is to lead, manage and facilitate, within the formal structures of the campus, all aspects of the teaching and learning process.

The role includes the implementation of the teaching and learning strategies to improve the quality of teaching and learning and meet delivery outcomes; working with the lecturing staff to promote and encourage research and innovation in teaching and learning; implementing student support and related academic policies; and developing a pool of qualified, skilled lecturers who contribute to the culture of teaching and learning of the campus and the college.

While the focus is on the academic activities on the campus, the incumbent needs to be cognisant of the operational functions linked to teaching and learning, particularly those of the Deputy Principal, Programme Co‑ordinators, and Branch Administrators.

In all respects, the incumbent will ensure that customer service standards are met and / or exceeded.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with IIE policies.
  • Implement the IIE Teaching and Learning Strategy to improve quality and meet delivery outcomes.
  • Develop teaching and learning capacity and standards on campus through managing, monitoring and implementing peer assessment of teaching, providing feedback, developing growth plans for individual lecturers, interventions as needed, quality assurance.
  • Organise and facilitate teaching skills and lecturer development workshops.
  • Organise and facilitate lecturer orientation.
  • Organise and implement the induction process of new lecturers to ensure all academic staff have a common understanding of teaching and learning processes and requirements.
  • Implement a buddy system among the academic staff to create and promote the campus culture.
  • Assist in the compilation of e‐PoE.
  • Design student support developmental workshop topics, including study skills, academic conventions, plagiarism and referencing, qualifications framework, time management and assignment planning, listening skills, and note‑taking skills.
  • Manage faculty activities to support student learning and associated administrative duties.
  • Manage the stated plans for the faculty.
  • Ensure academic integrity is maintained in the assessment process from planning to invigilation, marking, moderation and feedback to students.
  • Contribute to the achievement of the College's strategic direction and objectives.
  • Provide leadership in academic activities (workshops, forums, meetings, etc.).
  • Co‑ordinate the implementation of the IIE Teaching and Learning Strategy.
  • Advise staff on discipline specific matters relating to the development, renewal and implementation of the curriculum.
  • Encourage staff to submit proposals to promote research.
  • Engage in research and development to support skills.
  • Engage and encourage academic staff in Celebrate Teaching and Learning.
  • Integrate knowledge and insights acquired at developmental workshops into teaching and learning principles and practice.
Minimum Requirements – Qualifications
  • Minimum: An NQF Level 9 Qualification – Master’s Degree.
  • Post‑graduate Diploma in Higher Education or equivalent, OR an Honours Degree in Education.
  • Understanding of the current South African Higher Education regulatory framework and its impact on higher education and private colleges.
Minimum Requirements – Experience
  • Staff management/supervision: 2‑3 years.
  • Lecturing experience: 3‑5 years (preferably in tertiary).
