Overview

The Buyer will manage the Fresh Produce and Groceries category and plays a pivotal role that requires acute commercial judgment, and exceptional speed-to-market execution.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing & Category Management

Develop and execute a robust category strategy for Fresh Produce and Groceries, focused on maximising margin while maintaining exceptional quality and competitive pricing.

Master the seasonality and supply chain dynamics of fresh produce, making critical, time-sensitive purchasing decisions to ensure product availability and minimise waste.

Identify, evaluate, and establish strong, sustainable relationships with local farmers, growers, and international suppliers, focusing on ethical sourcing and consistent quality assurance.

Negotiation & Cost Management

Lead frequent price and term negotiations with suppliers, leveraging market knowledge to secure the best possible cost prices, particularly in volatile commodity markets.

Manage and mitigate risks associated with price fluctuations, adverse weather conditions, and logistics delays, which are critical in the fresh sector.

Quality Control & Compliance

• Ensure all sourcing and purchasing activities adhere to local and international food regulations and compliance standards.

Performance Analysis & Forecasting

• Present compelling insights and strategic recommendations to senior management, justifying purchasing decisions based on market data and commercial impact.

Experience & Education :

A Bachelor of Commerce (B.Comm) Degree or an equivalent qualification in Supply Chain, Retail Management, or Agricultural Business is highly preferred.

• At least 3 years experience managing Fresh Produce or Groceries.
• Experience using ARCH software is advantageous.

This is an office based role in Kempton Park.
