Introduction

A well established steel-and-hardware retailer with its Distribution Centre in Silvertondale, Pretoria is looking for the services of an experienced Buyer.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Source and purchase stock at the best possible price and quality.
• Issue purchase orders and ensure timely delivery of stock.
• Negotiate prices, terms and credit facilities with suppliers.
• Maintain proper purchasing records and documentation.
• Identify reliable suppliers.
• Maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers.
• Monitor supplier performance (delivery times, product quality, reliability).
• Resolve supplier issues such as shortages, delays or defective material.
• Product range development – e.g. introduce new products.
• Reporting.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Matric.
• No criminal record.
• One year proven experience in the steel and hardware industry.
• One year experience with proven knowledge of the various steel and hardware items in the steel and hardware industry.
• Good negotiating skills – must be a price-maker and not a price-taker.
• Strong English communication skills – must also be able to converse in Afrikaans.
• Strong people skills – must be able to work in a team and on your own.
• Strong administrative skills and process orientated thinking.
• Proficient on Microsoft product suite especially Excel.
• Be able to work under pressure.
• Reside in an area of no more than 50km from Silvertondale.
• Must have a valid driver's license and own reliable transport.
