Business Finance Advisor – South Africa
Reporting to the South Africa Business Finance Manager, this role is part of the Finance advisory pool that supports the downstream business across South Africa. The position offers exposure to trading, supply, and operations, and requires close collaboration with local and regional teams, including Mobility, B2B, Aviation, Marine, Lubricants and Corporate finance groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Assure an appropriate business control framework and deliver reliable management information.
- Provide business analysis and decision‑support to enable profitable, risk‑aware, and compliant decisions.
- Partner with the business to promote integrated value and trade‑off thinking, and challenge OPEX improvements and cost management.
- Support and review investment proposals, focusing on operational excellence and alignment with business strategy.
- Participate in the planning process, ensuring operationalisation of agreed plans at the local level.
- Interface with cross‑functional teams (Mobility, B2B, Aviation, Marine, Lubricants, Corporate) and contribute to the Business Assurance Committees and annual assurance process.
- Mentor and coach junior team members, building indirect leadership skills and an end‑to‑end mindset.
- Deliver timely, accurate financial information and business insight to multiple stakeholders.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in finance or accounting, preferably in FMCG, Retail, or Oil & Gas.
- Background in a multinational company.
- Commercial degree (Bachelor’s in Finance, Economics or BCom).
- Professional qualification such as CA, CFA or CIMA is preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience in financial modelling, Mi and reporting, planning, budgeting and performance management.
- Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate and influence across business and finance functions.
- Strong problem‑solving mindset and ability to apply professional financial rigor to commercial decisions.
- Project management skills and flexibility to support multiple activities and assets.
- Knowledge of price risk management, hedging techniques and related accounting.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in oil and gas industry.
- Mentoring and coaching junior team members.
- Ability to rapidly understand specific business or function context within the pool concept.
- Demonstrated maturity and authority in independent finance decision making.
