Purpose of role

The Business Development Specialist plays a pivotal role in driving new business, expanding the client base, and fostering long-term relationships with institutional clients. This role will support business growth through providing high levels of client services and co‑ordination in accordance with the Prescient Securities relationship‑focused model. This position requires a deep understanding of financial markets, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to identify and capitalise on growth opportunities within the South African investment landscape.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with prospective clients.
  • Develop and implement strategic business development plans to achieve company targets for client acquisition and revenue growth.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends, competitor activities, and emerging opportunities in the South African stockbroking sector.
  • Present and promote the firm's stockbroking products and services through meetings, presentations, and networking events.
  • Represent Prescient Securities at industry events.
  • Build and maintain strong, long‑term client relationships by providing exceptional service, regular follow‑ups, and tailored investment solutions.
  • Act as escalation and potential resolution point for client issues and concerns.
  • Support CRM system use, ensuring the database is updated promptly with accurate client information.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including research, trading, and compliance, to ensure seamless onboarding and servicing of new clients.
  • Prepare and deliver sales proposals, client reports, and marketing materials as required.
  • Strong experience in PowerPoint is required.
  • Enhance the quality of presentation slides, product documents and client communications as directed by Group Marketing.
  • Stay abreast of relevant regulatory changes and ensure all business development activities comply with the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) and Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with the team, maintaining cohesion and success while adhering to Prescient's value system.
Executive Support to the CEO
  • Support the CEO with a wide variety of coordination and administrative tasks, requiring excellent planning and time‑management skills.
  • Coordinate, manage, and maintain the CEO’s diary.
  • Assist in filtering information, queries, and phone calls.
  • Assist in arranging and coordinating travel and accommodation arrangements as required.
Required experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in business development or sales within the financial services or stockbroking industry.
  • Strong knowledge of South African financial markets, investment products, and regulatory environment.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with high‑value clients.
  • Self‑motivated, target‑driven, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM systems.
  • FSCA regulatory exams (RE1 / RE5) and JSE Registered Persons Exams (RPE) are advantageous.
Required Qualifications
