Business Development Manager (Johannesburg, SA)About the RoleWe're looking for a highly driven Business Development Manager who thrives on building new business in the insurance sector.
You'll be responsible for hunting new opportunities, closing deals, and helping shape our fast-growing organisation in the short-term insurance and transport / trucking space.
This is not a passive account management role — it's a chance to be on the frontlines of growth.
Drive % new business development initially (shift later to ~60% new / 40% existing).
Identify, prospect, and close new clients in short-term insurance / trucking insurance.
Build strong, trust-based relationships with clients — be seen as a partner, not a "salesperson."
Run both cold-calling campaigns and structured face-to-face / online client meetings.
Gather and leverage client feedback to suggest new business opportunities and product improvements.
Manage signed accounts once secured, ensuring continued satisfaction and cross-sell potential.
Collaborate across departments (claims, underwriting, operations) to deliver value.
Maintain accurate records and reporting via CRM and internal systems.
Remain available when required to support clients after hours / weekends (transport never sleeps).
Business or Marketing Degree (must be FSCA-recognised or in process).
Must meet Fit & Proper requirements under the FAIS Act (criminal check required).
Cold calling and prospecting experience.
Experience in closing deals both online and face-to-face.
Account and client relationship management skills.
Strong admin and time management with attention to detail.
CRM experience (advantageous).
Experience in short-term insurance or transport / logistics sector (advantageous).
Proven success in new business development in a tough industry (insurance, transport, logistics, financial services, etc.).
Self-sufficient, accountable, and disciplined — thrives without micro-management.
Goal-driven with strong motivation tied to financial growth.
Mature, trustworthy, and professional with high integrity.
Customer-centric mindset — must want to add real value, not just "sell."

Multi-lingual preferred (English & Afrikaans essential; other languages a bonus).

Own reliable vehicle (for client meetings).
Prepared to support clients outside of normal hours if required.
Someone who requires constant management.
