Business Developer – Renewable Energy

Location : South Africa

Leap29 is partnering with a leading player in the energy transition, delivering sustainable solutions across South Africa and internationally.

Our client specialises in renewable energy projects with a focus on commercial & industrial (C&I) solar, energy efficiency, and distributed generation.

Role Overview

The Business Developer will be responsible for identifying, approaching, and securing new clients within the C&I sector. The role involves proactive prospecting, cold calling, and managing the full sales cycle to deliver new contracts and long-term partnerships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively generate new business opportunities in the C&I renewable energy market.
  • Drive outbound sales activity : cold calling, prospecting, networking, and client meetings.
  • Develop and execute a structured sales strategy to achieve growth targets.
  • Build strong relationships with senior decision-makers and key stakeholders.
  • Manage the complete sales process, from lead generation through to deal closure.
  • Track industry trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments.
Key Requirements
  • Proven track record in new business development (renewable energy, utilities, or related industries preferred).
  • Strong experience in cold calling and closing new business (essential).
  • Commercially astute with excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive, results-driven approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Based in South Africa with willingness to travel.
