Job description
About NOA

NOA is a vertically integrated renewable energy utility, established to provide customers with innovative and flexible solutions on their journey towards “Net Zero” emissions and low‑cost, clean energy.

To achieve this, NOA has assembled several critical building blocks:

  • A strong balance sheet with equity funding from AIIM, part of Old Mutual Investment.
  • An innovative capital and operational structure backed by a top‑tier South African commercial banking institution.
  • Partnerships with several of the most successful project developers in South Africa, with successes in both the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Program (REIPPP) and the Commercial and Industrial (C&I) space.
  • NOA Group Trading – a renewable energy aggregator and trader aimed, in part, at disrupting the conventional project finance model that has characterised the commercial energy space to date.
  • An agile group of energy sector veterans committed to making a major contribution to the low‑carbon energy transition – both in South Africa and across the rest of the African continent.
About the Role

NOA Group is seeking a Business Analyst who thrives in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment and will support the development and execution of NOA’s growth strategy, developing tools and processes to measure and manage business risk.

Key responsibilities
  • Modelling and evaluating the various business risks NOA is exposed to and helping to design, monitor and report on the implementation of risk management tools and processes. Risk analysis may include topics such as Asset‑Liability Monitoring (ALM), Value‑at‑Risk estimation and simulation and risk scenario modelling.
  • Power market modelling and risk analysis, using modern software frameworks and tools such as Python, PYPSA and Plexos, as well as building risk and financial models in Microsoft Excel when appropriate.
  • Analysis and research to support strategy development and execution. Research and analysis topics may include customer segmentation and demand sizing; competitor analysis and financial modeling.
  • Designing, producing, and maintaining reports and dashboards to aid decision making and to track key business metrics to ensure alignment with overall business objectives and risk appetite.
  • Participating in research, analysis and regulatory forums related to electricity tariffs and energy market development to inform our product and portfolio evolution, trading and risk strategies as the market evolves.
Cross‑functional collaboration
  • Engaging with all operating divisions to ensure that risk management practices and processes are consistently implemented and that risks are well understood and managed.
  • Working with divisional teams to develop and execute NOA’s growth strategy.
Required qualifications, skills, and experience
  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Actuarial or Business Science, Economics, Mathematics or Statistics, Finance, or other quantitative field.
  • 1‑2 years working in a role involving extensive analysis, modelling and research.
  • Domain experience in renewable energy, trading markets, banking, insurance, investment management, financial risk management or related fields will be advantageous.
  • Highly strong numerical problem‑solving.
  • Good aptitude for understanding complex technical and business issues.
  • Advanced Excel skills in financial and systems modelling required. Programming skills or experience with statistical or business intelligence (BI) software tools will be highly valued.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to distil and present analyses in a simplified way to facilitate informed decision‑making.
  • Ability to set goals, plan work, prioritise and self‑organise with the flexibility to thrive in a dynamic, fast‑growing business environment.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary in line with experience, short‑term incentive and equity investment exposure.
  • Opportunity to work in a dynamic, mission‑driven company with strong financial backing and a deep commitment to making a contribution to the development of a resilient and cost‑effective energy system in South Africa.
  • Be part of a growing team at the forefront of the South African renewable energy sector.
