A law firm based in Sandton is seeking a Business Analyst to join their Data & Analytics teams.
Role Summary/Objective
The Business Analyst is expected to possess advanced analytical capabilities, a comprehensive understanding of systems, and expertise in optimising business processes. This position is well suited for an individual with experience in collaborating with finance teams and a comprehensive understanding of financial systems and data integration within enterprise architecture. Responsibilities include documenting and analysing business processes, contributing to process reengineering initiatives, and ensuring that systems and workflows effectively support the organisation’s strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)
Business Process & Systems Analysis
- Document and map current financial business processes and data flows across systems and departments.
- Identify inefficiencies, gaps, or bottlenecks in workflows and propose improvements.
- Maintain up-to-date models of how financial data moves through the enterprise, supporting architectural visibility.
Process Reengineering & Improvement
- Contribute to business process reengineering initiatives by analysing existing workflows and recommending redesigns to improve efficiency, data quality, and user experience.
- Support implementation of process changes in collaboration with stakeholders and technical teams.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with finance, legal, IT, and data teams to gather requirements and ensure shared understanding of process and system needs.
- Facilitate workshops and meetings to present process models, improvement proposals, and system documentation.
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Analyse financial data and trends to provide insights that drive business decisions.
- Support the development of financial models, forecasts, and budgets.
- Work with the Head of Data & Analytics to present financial data in a meaningful way to stakeholders.
Systems Optimization
- Evaluate the performance of financial systems and recommend enhancements to ensure data accuracy and process efficiency.
- Collaborate with IT to implement updates or upgrades to financial systems.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency in financial modelling and forecasting tools (e.g., Excel, SQL).
- Familiarity with financial systems and enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms, Aderant would be advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights.
- Experience working cross-functionally with finance and data teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Informatics.
- 3–5 years of experience in business analysis, financial systems, or process improvement.
- Exposure to financial operations and enterprise systems in a professional services or legal environment is a plus.
