Job summary

Department of Health in South Africa is seeking a Medical Specialist Grade 1 in Surgery (Burns Unit) to oversee burns care, conduct surgeries and train interns and registrars at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital.

You will require HPCSA registration as a Medical Specialist in General Surgery, current FC Surgery (SA) status, and active HPCSA registration for 2026/2027, with strong leadership and teamwork abilities and a commitment to teaching and outreach.

Qualifications

• Registration with HPCSA as Medical Specialist in General Surgery is required.
• Current FC Surgery (SA) specialist.
• Current HPCSA registration for 2026/2027.
• Ability to initiate and conduct research is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Supervise burns patients in ward and ICU; perform and supervise surgical operations.
• Train Interns, Medical Officers, Registrars and Fellows.
• Engage with surgical staff and hospital management across cluster hospitals.
• Coordinate with anaesthetic team, ICU, ward nurses and support services.
