Job description

We’re seeking an experienced Boiler & Turbine Technician to support the Boiler Engineer with maintenance, shutdowns, and projects, ensuring safe, compliant, and cost-effective operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing boiler and turbine shutdowns, inspections, and modifications.
  • Support the Maintenance Engineer in managing turbine general overhauls (GOs) and maintenance projects, including renewals and Capex.
  • Conduct technical investigations, feasibility studies, and root cause analyses to enhance boiler and turbine reliability.
  • Prepare and update technical specifications, mechanical drawings, and procedures, including piping documentation.
  • Coordinate statutory inspections and ensure compliance with legal and documentation requirements (OHS Act, ASME, PER, EN).
  • Supervise contractors and vendors during shutdowns and project execution, ensuring quality and safety standards.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules, tracking performance, reporting, and budgets.
  • Provide standby support when required and act in the Boiler Engineer’s role as delegated.
Minimum Requirements
  • NQF6: National Diploma / NH Dip. Mechanical
  • Welding Inspector Level 1 & 2 (advantageous)
  • 3–5 years practical experience in boiler and turbine maintenance
  • Experience in welding inspections and quality control
  • Knowledge of scaffolding, non-destructive testing (NDT), refractory, insulation, and cladding
  • Pulp and paper industry experience advantageous
