Job summary

Inspired Education Group is seeking a Boarding Matron for Reddam House Umhlanga, a premium co-educational private school near Durban. The role focuses on pastoral care, student wellbeing, safety and daily support for boarders in a full-time capacity.

The successful candidate will work closely with staff, parents and the school community to ensure a nurturing, structured environment and high standards of welfare for both male and female boarders.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Pastoral Care and Student Wellbeing: Build positive and supportive relationships with boarders; monitor welfare; provide personal, social, emotional and developmental support.
• Boarding Operations: Oversee daily operation of the boarding house; supervise boarders during routines; ensure supervision and pastoral care in line with policies.
• Parent Communication: Build strong relationships with parents/guardians; communicate about boarding and welfare matters.
• Student Welfare and Daily Support: Maintain visible presence; support daily routines and health needs; coordinate medical appointments and healthcare per policies.

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Boarding Matron is responsible for the pastoral care, wellbeing, safety and day-to-day support of students residing in the Co-educational Boarding House at Reddam House Umhlanga. The role requires a full-time commitment to boarding life and plays a vital role in creating a nurturing, structured and supportive environment in which boarders can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

The boarding matron acts in loco parentis and is a highly visible presence within the boarding community, providing guidance, care and support to both male and female boarders while maintaining high standards of wellbeing, conduct, safeguarding and student welfare.

The successful candidate will work closely with boarding staff, parents, teaching staff and the wider school community to ensure that every boarder feels safe, valued, supported and cared for.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pastoral Care and Student Wellb eing

• Build positive and supportive relationships with all boarders.
• Monitor student welfare and wellbeing.
• Provide pastoral support for personal, social, emotional and developmental needs.

Boarding Operations

• Oversee the daily operation of the co-educational boarding house.
• Supervise and support boarders during daily routines.
• Ensure appropriate supervision and pastoral care for boys and girls in line with school policies.

Parent Communication

• Build strong relationships with parents and guardians.
• Communicate effectively regarding boarding, student welfare and pastoral matters.

Student Welfare and Daily Support

• Maintain a visible and accessible presence throughout the school day and within the boarding environment.
• Support students with daily routines, organisation, wellbeing and pastoral needs.
• Coordinate medical appointments, medication and healthcare requirements in accordance with school policies.
