Job description
Overview

New World Foundation is seeking to recruit board members (2) to serve in a voluntary capacity on New World Foundation’s Board and Subcommittees, and to be custodians of the Foundation’s work, impact, sustainability and values by actively participating in governance and leadership.

As part of the board, you will provide strategic direction by adapting strategic plans, determining policy and processes, ensuring the integrity of risk management and internal controls, and monitoring operational performance and management.

Time Commitment
  • The Board meets four (4) times per year for three (3) hours, at least once every three (3) months, usually scheduled at the previous meeting or at the written request of any two (2) members of the board.
  • The subcommittees meet two to four (2-4) times per year for 2 hours as required and determined by their terms of reference.
  • A minimum of 1.5 hours to prepare for each meeting by reading and engaging with the meeting pack.
  • The quorum of a meeting shall be two-thirds of the board. Board members may attend in person or virtually.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Annually revising and approving, in consultation with the Director, the strategic objectives for the year ahead.
  • Monitoring progress toward achieving the objectives of the current strategic plan.
  • Monitoring the activities of the Director and ensuring operational policies are followed in accordance with the constitution.
  • Engaging in decision making around policies with a financial implication and expenditure to ensure adherence to the constitution in activities.
  • Sitting on one of the Board Sub-Committees (e.g., Audit, Risk and Sustainability Committee).
  • Marketing New World Foundation to potential donors.
  • Exercising leadership, enterprise, integrity and judgement to achieve continuing impact and sustainability.
  • Exercising utmost good faith, honesty and integrity in all dealings with or on behalf of New World Foundation.
  • Acting independently of any outside instructions.
  • Being prepared and able to express disagreements with colleagues on the Board, including the Chairperson and the Director where necessary.
Qualifications And Requirements

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Academic & applied research: understanding and experience in community development, stakeholder engagement, commerce, marketing or law, with the ability to provide intellectual leadership and guidance to the Foundation’s agenda.
  • While university-affiliated candidates are encouraged to apply, all qualified applicants will be considered.
  • Finance & Risk: experience overseeing finance and risk in organisations.
  • Fundraising: ability to advise on and oversee fundraising strategies that align with organisational priorities.
  • Strategic Communications & Public engagement: ability to advise on media relations, digital strategy, and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Governance: previous board experience in NGOs or relevant sectors is preferred.
