Job summary

Helderberg Personnel is seeking a Beverage Developer for an international client with offices in Paarl to create new beverage recipes and adapt existing ones for customer and innovation projects.

The role involves working in the Beverage Application Laboratory, developing commercially viable products, preparing samples, and documenting results across non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, juices and energy drinks.

Qualifications

• BSc or National Diploma in Food Technology, Food Science or a related qualification.
• At least 4 years’ experience in a Product Development/Application role focused on beverages (non-alcoholic and alcoholic).
• SAP experience and residing in or near Paarl is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop formulations for beverages (non-alcoholic and alcoholic) considering cost and sustainability.
• Prepare application samples and document results accurately.
• Coordinate with QA, Sourcing and Production on development projects.
• Create and maintain recipes in SAP and manage flavor library.
• Attend factory trials and liaise with customers as required.

My international client with offices in Paarl is seeking to employ a Beverage Developer whose role will include developing new recipes for customer- and innovation projects, matching products, and further development of existing recipes.

Duties & Responsibilities

Form part of a team in the Beverage Application Laboratory that must meet project goals by developing commercially viable products, preparing application samples, recording information, and creating documentation accurately. The focus will be on non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, juices, energy drinks, etc.

• Preparation of application samples and performing analytical checks on development samples.
• Selecting and sampling flavours for customer requirements.
• Research of new ingredients.
• Develop formulations, keeping costs and raw material sustainability in mind, and liaising with QA, Sourcing, and Production departments in this respect.
• Coordinating and keeping record of samples coming in and going out of the laboratory.
• Liaising with suppliers regarding raw material documentation and samples.
• Managing development projects and organizing project information.
• Formulation of new products, line extensions, or matches as per brief.
• Sensory evaluation.
• Compiling technical documentation and completing production handover.
• Ensuring Good Laboratory Practice is maintained in the Application Laboratory.
• Ensuring the flavor library is organized and up to date.
• Attending factory trials when requested, both in-house and on customer premises.
• Creating and maintaining recipes in SAP.
• Collaborating with the Technical Project Manager and Sales on all development projects.

Experience, Skills and Knowledge Required

• BSc/National diploma in Food Technology, Food Science, or related qualification.
• At least 4 years’ work experience in a Product Development/Application position where experience was gained in the development of non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, juices, energy drinks, etc.
• SAP experience and residing in or near Paarl will furthermore be advantageous.
