Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Livestock Production Manager near Rustenburg to oversee cattle ranching operations, optimize herd performance and welfare, and implement sustainable production practices.

You will lead breeding, nutrition, health, and record-keeping programs, supervise ranch staff, manage budgets, and collaborate with vets and suppliers, with a hybrid work arrangement for strategic planning and reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Veterinary Technology, or a related field.
• 6+ years of proven experience in livestock production management, preferably beef cattle.
• Strong knowledge of animal husbandry, nutrition, genetics, and reproduction.
• Experience with herd health management and disease prevention strategies.
• Leadership, communication, and team management skills.
• Proficiency in livestock management software and record-keeping.
• Ability to develop and manage operational budgets.
• Understanding of relevant regulations and best practices in the livestock industry.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to make critical decisions.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive livestock management plans, focusing on breeding, nutrition, health, and welfare.
• Oversee daily ranch operations, including grazing management, feeding programs, and herd movements.
• Monitor animal health closely, implementing preventative health measures and coordinating with veterinarians.
• Manage breeding programs to improve herd genetics and reproductive efficiency.
• Supervise and train ranch staff, ensuring high standards of animal care and operational safety.
• Manage feed procurement, inventory, and budgeting for livestock.
• Maintain detailed records of herd performance, health, breeding, and financial data.
• Ensure compliance with all animal welfare regulations and industry best practices.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies and techniques to improve livestock production efficiency.
• Contribute to the development of strategic plans for the long-term growth and sustainability of the livestock operation.
