Job Purpose
To inspect, service, and repair the electrical systems and components of vehicles in order to ensure reliable performance, safety, and compliance with technical standards. The role involves diagnosing electrical faults, replacing defective parts, and installing new electronic systems or upgrades. This includes installing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing electrical and electronic systems in vehicles and ensuring that all electrical components—such as lighting, ignition, air conditioning, battery systems, wiring, and onboard computers—function correctly and safely. This position will be based in Strand.
Key Requirements
- Strong knowledge of vehicle electrical and electronic systems, including wiring, lighting, ignition, and charging systems.
- Ability to use diagnostic equipment and tools (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, scan tools).
- Skilled in reading and interpreting wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
- Competence in installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical components and accessories (batteries, alternators, starters, alarms, GPS, etc.).
- Understanding of modern vehicle control systems.
- High school diploma or equivalent (minimum).
- Certificate or diploma in Auto Electrical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related field.
- Apprenticeship or trade test certification (where applicable).
- Experience in Nissan vehicles (advantageous).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Willing to work overtime and weekends.
- Candidates to live in the areas of Strand, Gordon’s Bay, Somerset West, Stellenbosch.

Job Duties
- Electrical System Diagnostics and Repairs
- Diagnose electrical and electronic faults using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Inspect, test, and repair vehicle electrical wiring, circuits, and components.
- Repair or replace faulty alternators, starters, batteries, fuses, lighting systems, and ignition components.
- Identify and resolve issues in vehicle control systems (e.g., ECU, ABS, and sensors).
- Installation of Electrical Components
- Install new electrical accessories such as alarms, radios, GPS trackers, reversing cameras, and lighting systems.
- Fit and connect wiring looms and harnesses according to manufacturer specifications.
- Upgrade or retrofit vehicle electrical systems as requested by customers or supervisors.
- Maintenance and Servicing
- Conduct routine checks and preventive maintenance on vehicle electrical systems.
- Ensure all electrical components function correctly and safely before vehicle delivery.
- Test and calibrate electronic systems after repairs or replacements.
- Workshop Operations
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, replacements, and diagnostic results.
- Follow workshop procedures and health and safety standards at all times.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness, organization, and proper tool handling within the workshop.
- Collaborate with mechanics and service advisors to coordinate repair work.
- Customer and Technical Support
- Communicate effectively with customers or supervisors to explain electrical issues and recommended repairs.
- Provide technical advice and support to team members when required.
- Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality, reliable workmanship.
