Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Auto Electrician. The purpose of this role is to perform electrical maintenance on various mobile equipment and mobile cranes in a safe and cost effective manner to maximise equipment reliability and availability, whilst enabling the achievement of production targets.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all health and safety practices and requirements.
  • Promote good housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where team members can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.
  • Exemplify all relevant safety standards and procedures as a positive example for learners to follow and prioritise in their work practices.
  • Active participation in SLAMs, HPH, relevant Risk Assessments, and close-out of Safety Actions.
  • Performance and Delivery
  • Equipment and Machinery Maintenance
  • Maintain and test all light motor vehicles, mobile cranes, or other relevant equipment/machinery to ensure functionality, safety, reliability, and availability to complete jobs within the specified timeframe and budgetary limits.
  • Conduct inspections to identify failures and repair or raise notifications for repairs.
  • Ensure effective maintenance of HME / plant equipment and related machinery to maximise utilisation and availability, thereby maximising production and throughput schedules.
  • Identify and report defects, equipment failures, and the time required to complete repairs to the supervisor to enable applicable decision-making, action planning, and problem resolution.
  • Ensure work is executed in accordance with Operating Model standards and procedures.
  • Complete and return job cards in full and on time.
  • Keep all toolboxes and tools in good condition.
  • Communicate effectively and hand over outstanding tasks between shifts and day shift teams.
  • Maintenance Efficiency
  • Maintain installations and commission equipment as specified in the maintenance strategy.
  • Test infrastructure and post-installation work to ensure functionality, in accordance with specifications, within the agreed timescale and budgetary limits.
  • Monitor maintenance progress and related preparation activities continuously to meet operational targets, minimise downtime, enable timely reporting, and enhance equipment efficiency.
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Stay informed about advancements in electrical technology, safety practices, and industry trends.
  • Pursue continuing education and professional development to maintain and expand your knowledge.
  • Provide leadership in reporting events and hazards.
  • Artisan Training, Development and Assessment
  • Identify and utilise on-the-job learning opportunities to achieve required competency levels.
  • Check the quality of work performed by Artisans and provide training and development to address deficiencies.
  • Give feedback to the supervisor to ensure Artisan competence.
  • Advise concerned parties proactively on maintenance-related matters, aligned with best practices and within agreed timeframes, to prevent potential problems.
  • Ensure learners under supervision adhere to all relevant safety standards and procedures.
  • Assistance and Practices
  • Assist the supervisor and co-workers when required, following company policies, procedures, and guidelines to enhance teamwork.
  • Provide advice on all maintenance-related matters and tactics to concerned parties proactively, aligned with best practices and within agreed timeframes, to prevent possible problems and strengthen the competence base.

This role is in Engineering & Maintenance (E&M) department on a band J3 (C3) level and reports into the Engineering Supervisor

Qualifications
  • Grade 12 Certificate / N3 Technical
  • Engineering Studies (Electrical) (NQF4)
  • Trade Certificate as an Auto Electrician
  • SA Drivers Licence
Technical Knowledge
  • Possessing 5 years of experience as an Auto Electrician.
  • Demonstrating awareness of safety standards.
  • Familiarity with company policies and procedures.
  • Understand the specific functionality of the discipline's equipment, tools, and machinery.
  • Competence in technical assessment.
