Job Purpose
To support laboratory operations by managing sample intake, data registration, documentation, and instrument maintenance, ensuring compliance with turnaround times, quality standards, and client service expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Sample Management: Independently receive and inspect samples to ensure accuracy and quality. Accurately register sample data on the LIMS system. Maintain proper documentation and contribute to overall laboratory efficiency. Monitor departmental turnaround times (TATs) and proactively address delays. Ensure compliance with OHS and Quality Assurance policies and procedures. Implement corrective actions for quality or TAT issues within your area of responsibility. Manage stock levels and inspect consumables required for testing. Adhere to all relevant standards, policies, and procedures. Ensure compliance with AssureCloud's Quality System and actively contribute to its improvement. Complete reporting requirements and record expenses in line with budget guidelines. Utilize IT tools effectively to support coordinated daily operations.
- Consumables Management: Ensure all required consumables are ordered, received, and readily available for sample reception and drivers. Prepare and package client consumables for shipment or collection, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation. Implement and maintain a control system for managing consumables across all laboratories to ensure efficiency, traceability, and cost control. Conduct regular stock checks and maintain adequate inventory levels. Prepare accurate quotes and invoices for consumables, send them to clients, and follow up as necessary.
Qualifications
- Matric (Grade 12) essential.
- National Diploma or Degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Food Technology, Food Science.
- Computer literacy (LIMS / MS Office Suite).
- ISO / IEC knowledge / training (Advantageous).
Experience
Minimum 1-2 years' experience in a laboratory or logistics environment role. Experience with LIMS systems and laboratory documentation processes (Advantageous).
Exposure
Exposure to ISO and SANAS accreditation standards (Advantageous).
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of laboratory instruments and maintenance procedures.
- Familiarity with invoicing and stock control processes.
- Good communication and client service skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory IT systems.
