The Department of Education Leadership and Management is one of five departments in the Faculty of Education at UJ.

The Department endeavours to fulfil the vision, mission and strategic objectives of UJ with a focus on preparing school leaders and managers (school district officials, principals, deputy principals and departmental heads) to be leading practitioners by dynamically shaping education leadership and management.

The department invites applications for the academic post of Senior lecturer / Associate Professor in education leadership and management.

We seek an individual with excellent academic credentials in teaching and research, and who possesses attributes of adaptability and versatility in respect of the various programmes / courses which the department offers.

Responsibilities
  • Involvement in curriculum development and teaching in the department's online programs i.e. Honours in School Leadership, Masters in School Leadership and Management, and the Advanced Diploma in School Leadership and Management.
  • Involvement in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in contact, blended and online modes of delivery.
  • Research supervision of Honours, Master's and Doctoral postgraduate students in the field of education management and leadership.
  • Lead national and international research projects.
  • Procure funding for research.
  • Involvement in core activities of the department such as academic administration, research, short-course development and marketing.
  • Involvement in community engagement and continuous professional development of leadership at school, district and senior management levels.
Minimum Requirements for Associate Professor
  • An awarded PhD / DEd / DPhil degree in the discipline of Education Leadership and Management
  • At least 5 years' teaching experience at the tertiary level
  • At least 3 years' teaching experience at school
  • Sustained strong record of DHET accredited research output in local and international journals / books / book chapters in the discipline of Education Leadership and Management
  • Experience in blended / fully online teaching
  • Experience in leading research and / or leadership development projects
  • NRF rating OR research output commensurable with an NRF rating
  • Procuring of research funding
Minimum Requirements for Senior Lecturer
  • An awarded PhD / DEd / DPhil degree in the discipline of Education Leadership and Management
  • At least 3 years' teaching experience at the tertiary level
  • At least 3 years' teaching experience at school
  • A strong record of DHET accredited research output in local and international journals / books / book chapters in the discipline of Education Leadership and Management
  • Experience in blended / fully online teaching
