Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive Faculty dedicated to teaching and research, as well as to overall student development. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to the development of the Faculty.

Responsibilities

The Department of Mercantile and Labour Law is responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervision, research, and community engagement in the fields of Mercantile Law (Corporate Law, Fintech Law and Regulation, Competition Law, International Trade and Investment Law, Tax Law) as well as Labour Law. The successful candidate for the vacant position will be required to teach Corporate Law and possibly aspects of Fintech Law and Regulation. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Academic leadership within the Department
  • Facilitation of learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Conducting research and publishing in the field of Mercantile Law
  • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students at Masters and Doctoral level
  • Academic administration
  • Curriculum development and assessment
  • Community engagement
Minimum Requirements for the position of Associate Professor
  • LLD or equivalent, in the field of Mercantile law
  • Teaching experience in the field of Mercantile law
  • A significant record of quality peer‑reviewed publications in the field of Mercantile law
  • A record of successful postgraduate supervision, at least at Master’s level
  • Evidence of expertise, national standing, and an international presence in the field of Mercantile Law
  • The integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research
Minimum Requirements for the position of Senior Lecturer
  • LLD or equivalent, in the field of Mercantile Law
  • Teaching experience, in the field of Mercantile Law
  • A record of quality peer‑reviewed publications in the field of Mercantile law
  • A record of successful supervision at LLB final year level
  • Demonstrated competence in community engagement
Advantageous for Appointment at Associate Professor
  • Experience in teaching Corporate Law and/or Fintech Law
  • Proven experience at doctoral level
Advantageous for Appointment at Senior Lecturer
  • Experience in teaching Corporate Law and/or Fintech Law
  • Publications in Corporate Law and/or Fintech Law
  • Supervision at Master’s and Doctoral level would be advantageous
Strong Recommendation for Appointment at Both Levels
  • A doctorate
  • Teaching experience and research publications and/or
  • Postgraduate supervision in Corporate Law or Fintech Law and Regulation
