Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

This Research Associate Professor position is expected to make a significant contribution to all activities of the research unit (AGoPA) and play a significant role within their profession or discipline.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching
  • Teaching research methodology subjects in postgraduate courses, short learning programmes and workshops.
  • Initiation and development of subject material.
Development and Supervisor
  • The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars on research methodology of higher degrees.
  • Supervision of postgraduate students engaged in course work.
  • Supervision of honours/ Masters and Doctoral research reports.
  • Leadership of research teams. This may require a high level of administrative work.
Research
  • Supervision of postgraduate students.
  • The conduct of own research projects.
  • Writing Grant Proposals.
  • Seeking funding for research projects.
  • Networking and actively seeking for national and international collaborative research projects.
  • Collaboration in multi-and interdisciplinary projects.
  • Leading research teams.
Community Engagement
  • Leading and applying research projects are integrated with local and broader national community projects.
Minimum Requirements
  • A PhD (NQF level 10) in Public Management or International Relations or Political Sciences.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ senior lecturing experience in a higher education environment.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in relevant research projects.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as post graduate supervisor.

  • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email and internet.
  • Knowledge of research methodology and research field.
  • Effective time-management skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
