Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Associate General Counsel with a strong focus on compliance to bolster its legal team in Durban. You will develop and maintain robust compliance programs, ensuring adherence to South African laws and ethical standards across the organization.

You will lead policy development, risk assessments, and training across departments, liaising with regulators and external auditors where required.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney with at least 6 years in compliance/regulatory work.
• Strong analytical and policy drafting skills.
• Ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement corporate compliance programs.
• Monitor changes in laws and regulations (POPIA, Companies Act, Competition Act).
• Conduct internal investigations and recommend corrective actions.
• Advise business units on compliance, privacy, anti-bribery and competition matters.
• Oversee risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
• Coordinate with regulators and external auditors as needed.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney with a minimum of 6 years of experience, with a significant portion dedicated to compliance and regulatory matters.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing corporate compliance programs.
• Strong knowledge of relevant South African laws and regulations (e.g., POPIA, Companies Act, Competition Act).
• Excellent analytical, research, and policy drafting skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate complex legal and compliance issues to diverse audiences.
• Experience in conducting internal investigations is highly desirable.
