Job summary

OptiSmile Advanced Dentistry and Implant Centre in Sea Point, Cape Town, seeks an Associate Dentist to deliver restorative, preventive and cosmetic dental services using digital workflows. Qualifications

• Recognized dental degree (e.g., BDS or equivalent) with HPCSA registration or eligibility.

• Strong communication skills and commitment to infection control.

OptiSmile Advanced Dentistry and Implant Centre is a fully digital dental practice based in Sea Point, Cape Town, founded in 2015 by Dr Clifford Yudelman, an experienced dentist who has practiced across four continents for more than 40 years. The practice focuses on an ABC approach to smile design: Align with Invisalign clear aligners, Brighten with OptiSmile WOW whitening, and Refine with precision composite bonding using 3D printed moulds, prioritizing preservation of healthy tooth structure. OptiSmile offers a comprehensive range of clinical services including dental implants, CEREC same-day crowns and onlays, porcelain veneers, full mouth rehabilitation, root canal treatment, and preventive and hygiene care. The team works entirely digitally, using intraoral scanning, 3D cone beam imaging, chairside CAD/CAM milling, and operating microscopes, and was the first practice in Africa to adopt the iTero scanner. The practice also contributes to public education in dentistry through the “Save Your Money, Save Your Teeth” podcast and newsletter.

Role Description

The Associate Dentist will provide high-quality clinical care to patients, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and delivery of restorative, preventive, and cosmetic dental services in alignment with OptiSmile’s digital workflows and smile design philosophy. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing examinations, interpreting digital scans and imaging, placing and restoring implants, preparing and fitting crowns and veneers, carrying out root canal treatments, and managing Invisalign and other orthodontic cases where appropriate. The role involves collaborating closely with the clinical team and support staff, maintaining accurate digital records, ensuring adherence to infection control and safety protocols, and delivering patient-centered communication and education. The Associate Dentist will be expected to actively contribute to practice growth by fostering positive patient relationships and supporting continuous clinical improvement. This is a full-time, on-site role located in the City of Cape Town (Sea Point).

Qualifications

• Recognized dental degree (e.g., BDS or equivalent) and valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) or eligibility to register.
• Clinical experience in general dentistry, including restorative treatments, endodontics (root canal therapy), and preventive care.
• Exposure to or interest in digital dentistry, such as intraoral scanning, CAD/CAM workflows, and digital imaging.
• Skills or strong interest in cosmetic and implant dentistry, including crowns, veneers, composite bonding, and implant-supported restorations.
• Commitment to evidence-based practice, continuing professional development, and maintaining high clinical standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and provide clear patient education.
