Job Title: Associate Consultant (Intern) — Forensic Accounting, Compliance & Monitoring, and Commercial Disputes

Location: South Africa — preferred office: Johannesburg or Cape Town (hybrid working arrangement; office attendance as required by engagement)

Contract: 12-month fixed-term internship commencing 1 February

Role Summary

You will support the Forensic Accounting, Compliance & Monitoring, and Commercial Disputes team by performing forensic accounting / investigations and financial analyses in enforcement, regulatory and litigation matters.

You will work alongside experienced accountants, auditors and investigators to develop analytical outputs, evidence packages and client deliverables while learning engagement processes and professional standards in a fast‑paced, people‑first environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gather, organise and analyse client documentation and source data to advance engagement objectives.
  • Read, interpret and summarise financial / non‑financial information, policies and corporate records.
  • Pile and evaluate facts and circumstances to substantiate, refine or challenge theories and conclusions.
  • Build and use financial models to convert complex data into clear analyses and exhibits.
  • Prepare analyses of information obtained and present findings in client deliverables, including visual exhibits.
  • Conduct document review aligned with engagement objectives and elevate relevant materials for senior review.
  • Assist in interview preparation and execution during forensic accounting / investigation matters.
  • Communicate work product clearly and professionally to supervisors, managers and clients, both orally and in writing.
  • Assist with engagement administration (budgeting, billing, conflict checks) as required.
  • Assist with business development activities (planning of events, assistance with preparation and finalisation of proposals) as required.
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Completed Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Forensic Accounting or related discipline.
  • Strong analytical, technical and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Good prioritisation and time management; able to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Desirable Skills
  • Prior exposure to professional environments (audit, consulting, financial analysis).
  • Knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
  • Additional language skills (Afrikaans, isiXhosa, isiZulu or other South African languages).
  • Interest in pursuing professional accounting accreditation (FP(SA), CFE, or similar).
