Position Purpose
As a tax accountant to the Afrocentric Group, you will be required to assist with the preparation of the tax computations for income tax return purposes and for internal and external reporting purposes.
You will be required to ensure that the Group is tax compliant and that the tax returns and tax payments are submitted timeously to SARS.
You will also be required to assist with Dispute Resolution and ad‑hoc queries from SARS.
Experience
Minimum 2‑3 years experience in Tax.
Qualifications
National Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Taxation, or related field. Honours Degree in Taxation is advantageous.
Reports to Senior Tax Specialist / Group's Advanced Tax Specialist.
Position Specific Outputs
Assist with the process surrounding the year‑end and interim tax audit and assist with the preparation of the tax packs for internal and external reporting. Plan for the audit and resolve issues timeously. Prepare the tax computations for annual financial statement purposes and the related disclosures. Raise tax journals and ensure that the tax figures are accurate i.e. SARS account. Prepare and file the income tax (ITR14) returns. Prepare and file withholding tax returns. Meet all tax reporting deadlines efficiently and effectively on a monthly basis (this includes monthly tax computations and VAT submissions).
Meet all tax reporting deadlines for internal reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis. On a bi‑annual basis, prepare and calculate the provisional tax payments and ensure that the deadlines are efficiently and effectively met. Ensure that the provisional tax submissions have been made timeously within the deadline, and that the relevant payments are actioned. Ensure that the company details are up to date on the SARS records. Advise SARS timeously of any changes that need to be effected on the company's SARS profile. Ensure that responses to SARS audits are timeously attended to, and that the company complies with the Tax Administration Act. Liaise with SARS and ensure that SARS queries, ADR's, outstanding matters are followed up timeously. Ensure that all tax risks are identified and brought to the attention of management. Ensure that the company is compliant with all the tax regulations. Assist the Group Senior tax specialist / Group's Advanced tax specialist in implementing the actions to mitigate the risk and increase the level of assurance in the tax function. Keep up to date with changes in the tax legislation and ensure that these changes are communicated with the relevant stakeholders. Prepare reconciliations accurately and within deadlines.
Knowledge
A sound understanding of the applicable tax laws and regulations in South Africa, and the ability to apply and interpret these laws and regulations in the context of the Afrocentric Group.
Skill
Attention to detail and accuracy. Strong numerical and analytical skills. Good communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Team‑oriented with a willingness to learn. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and tax software (e.g., eFiling).
