Position: Assistant Restaurant Manager, King Williamstown (Rhodes University, Food Services Section, Division of Residential Operations)

Type: Permanent (may be appointed on a fixed-term contract of not less than three years).

Job Description

The Food Services Section of the Division of Residential Operations at Rhodes University invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team.

The Division of Food Services is an in-house operated catering service that creates a hospitable environment in dining rooms, providing a social environment for students. We support local suppliers and ensure the nutritional well-being of students. We are a team of 196 staff.

Main Objective: To assist the Manager: Food Services in running Food Services operations, particularly regarding staff management and the implementation of procedures and standards to ensure high-quality service delivery. The post contributes to the Residential Operations Division Vision & Mission Statement and Rhodes University’s objective of being a world-class institution.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Manager: Food Services in running Food Services operations, particularly staff management and implementation of procedures and standards.
  • Contribute to the Residential Operations Division Vision & Mission; support high-quality service delivery.
  • Provide convenient and flexible access to nutritious, well-balanced meals in a hygienic environment.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • A degree/diploma (NQF Level 7) in Hospitality Management with approximately 4 years’ relevant experience.
  • At least 3 years’ experience supervising staff at supervisory level.
  • At least 2 years’ experience supervising staff.
  • Approved practical training in an Industrial Catering Facility with hands-on industrial cooking experience, stock-take, and on-the-job training of catering staff.
  • Experience with up-to-date Food Services practices for high-volume food production at multiple sites.
  • A valid Driver’s license.

Remuneration
