Job description

This role forms part of the Operations team at Village n Life, based in Camps Bay, Cape Town.

The Role

As Assistant Hotel Manager, you’ll support daily operations across front of house, Rooms Division and Food & Beverage, ensuring smooth coordination and consistently memorable guest experiences. Working closely with the Hotel Manager, you’ll balance hands‑on leadership with the art of hosting – being present, anticipating needs and setting the tone for genuine guest connection.

As a lead host, you’ll represent the personality and service values of The Bay Hotel with confidence and warmth, shaping moments that feel personal and true to our spirit. You’ll also mentor junior managers and supervisors to take ownership of their teams and uphold the Village n Life service culture that inspires pride and performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily front of house, housekeeping and F&B operations
  • Support the Hotel Manager in driving guest satisfaction and operational excellence
  • Lead and motivate teams to deliver confident, attentive service
  • Act as lead host during key interactions, events and VIP stays
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the property, engaging naturally with guests
  • Conduct pre-arrival checks to ensure readiness and presentation standards
  • Resolve guest feedback promptly and professionally
  • Mentor junior leaders and foster interdepartmental collaboration
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety and hygiene standards
  • Support staff development, rostering and performance management
  • Uphold brand and property standards across all operations
What We’re Looking For
  • 2–4 years’ experience in the same or similar position within luxury hotel operations
  • Background in F&B or Rooms Division advantageous
  • Opera Cloud and Micros/Simphony POS experience beneficial
  • Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
  • Confident host with sharp attention to detail
  • Hands‑on approach with composure under pressure
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays
