Job summary

Mayfly Agri in South Africa seeks a hands-on cattle feedlot supervisor with strong veterinary knowledge. You will diagnose and treat sick cattle, oversee calf herds, manage documentation and admin related to incoming livestock, and coordinate daily cattle movement.

Requirements include a Grade 12, 3 years’ feedlot experience, veterinary product knowledge, and proficiency in Excel with good numeracy. English and Afrikaans fluency, leadership and communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Identify, diagnose, and treat sick cattle, including re-vaccination.
• Manage and oversee calf herds within the feedlot.
• Process incoming cattle, document and maintain records.
• Offload and dispatch cattle as required.
• Allocate cattle to pens after processing.
• Conduct post-mortem exams where required.
• Perform daily data capture, reporting and admin duties.
• Order, issue and maintain records of veterinary medicines and stock.
• Manage feed bunks and monitor feed distribution.
• Plan daily cattle movement and HR admin duties (timesheets, leave, discipline).

Job description

Minimum requirements for the role:

• Must have a National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
• Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a cattle feedlot environment
• Must have sound knowledge of veterinary products and cattle medication
• Computer literacy with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong numeracy skills
• Fully conversant in both English and Afrikaans, with excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Identifying, diagnosing, and attending to sick cattle, including re-vaccination and administration of prescribed treatments.
• Managing and overseeing calf herds within the feedlot.
• Processing incoming cattle, including documentation, record-keeping, and handling administrative documentation related to incoming livestock.
• Offloading and dispatching cattle as required.
• Allocating cattle to the correct pens after processing.
• Conducting post-mortem examinations where required.
• Performing accurate daily data capturing, reporting, and administrative duties.
• Ordering, issuing, and maintaining records of veterinary medicines and stock.
• Managing feed bunks and monitoring feed distribution.
• Daily planning and coordination of cattle movement within the feedlot, including HR-related administrative duties such as timesheets, leave administration, and discipline.
