Qualifications

• 10+ years experience in artistic direction, programming or senior curatorial roles.
• Strong national and international arts network.
• Proven ability to conceive and deliver innovative programming.
• Deep understanding of performing arts forms and processes.
• Leadership and team management experience.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
• Experience budgeting artistic programming.
• Relates to Arts Administration or Theatre/Dance/Music field, degree required.

About the Role

Our client, a distinguished institution within the Arts & Entertainment landscape, is seeking an visionary Artistic Director to lead its performing arts centre. This pivotal role involves shaping the artistic vision, curating diverse programming, and fostering creative excellence. The ideal candidate will possess a deep passion for the performing arts, a proven ability to identify and nurture talent, and a strong understanding of artistic management. This opportunity is based in Centurion, Gauteng , a hub for cultural activities. We are looking for a dynamic leader who can inspire artists, engage diverse audiences, and contribute significantly to the cultural enrichment of the region. Your expertise will guide the strategic direction of all artistic endeavors.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the overall artistic vision and strategic plan for the performing arts centre.
• Curate and program a diverse season of performances, festivals, and special events across various disciplines (theatre, dance, music, etc.).
• Oversee the selection and engagement of artists, ensembles, and production companies.
• Collaborate with the executive director and other stakeholders on strategic planning and budget development.
• Nurture relationships with artists, arts organizations, and community partners.
• Ensure artistic quality and integrity across all programming.
• Contribute to fundraising efforts and grant applications by articulating the artistic vision.
• Manage artistic staff and provide mentorship and guidance.
• Stay abreast of current trends and innovations in the performing arts globally.
• Oversee the development and execution of educational and community outreach programs.

Requirements

• Extensive experience (10+ years) in artistic direction, programming, or senior curatorial roles within performing arts organizations.
• A strong network within the national and international performing arts community.
• Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, develop, and execute innovative artistic programming.
• Excellent understanding of various performing art forms and their creative processes.
• Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate creative teams.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in budget management for artistic programming.
• A relevant degree in Arts Administration, Theatre, Dance, Music, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Passion for audience development and community engagement.
• Must be based in or able to relocate to Centurion, Gauteng .
