Job summary

A community initiative is seeking an Artisan Assistant to offer unemployed youth quality workplace experience through the Youth Employment Service initiative. The role involves assisting in machinery maintenance, learning technical skills, adhering to safety protocols, and documenting maintenance activities. Candidates must have a high school diploma, a passion for machinery, and a willingness to learn. This is an opportunity for hands-on experience in an engaging environment with a stipend of R5 500 per month.

Qualifications

  • Recent completion of a high school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Passion for machinery and construction.
  • Willingness to learn and assist in applying technical knowledge.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity for hands‑on tasks.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively.
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 34.
  • Must not have taken part in the YES Programme.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in routine maintenance and repairs under the guidance of senior artisans.
  • Participate in basic inspections to identify and address issues with machinery.
  • Learn the proper handling and organization of tools and equipment.
  • Collaborate with experienced technicians to enhance your skills.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines during maintenance activities.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities.
