Job summary

A South African university is seeking an individual to assist in building services maintenance, requiring knowledge of infrastructure and the ability to work at heights. Job description
CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The purpose of this post is to lend assistance in the building services workshops regarding maintenance and preventative maintenance work and services to all NMU buildings in accordance with the Health and Safety Act and NMU policies and procedures.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • Assist an Artisan in repairing and maintaining buildings on all building services related work orders.
  • Be able to independently use electrical power tools, eg belt sanders, drills, etc.
  • To apply protective coatings to objects (eg. varnish)
  • To apply edging to chipboard parts of cupboards.
CORE COMPETENCIES
  • Have knowledge of Large Buildings and Services infrastructure.
  • Possess the ability to work without supervision and function well as part of a team.
  • Have knowledge about minor building maintenance and new installation work.
  • Must be able to work at heights, eg : ladders, scaffolding, roofs etc.
  • Have working knowledge of the building regulations in the Occupation Health and Safety Act and Construction Safety legislation.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Grade 8-12.
  • 1 year’s relevant maintenance experience.
  • Preference will be given to applicants that have and Unendorsed Category B driver’s license.
