Qualifications

• A National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Architectural Technology or a related field.
• 1–3 years of architectural practice experience, with an interest in heritage architecture or conservation.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
• Experience with 3D modeling and rendering software is an advantage.
• Understanding of heritage conservation principles and SA heritage legislation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed condition assessments and photographic surveys of heritage buildings.
• Produce measured drawings (plans, sections, elevations) of existing heritage structures.
• Assist in heritage statements, impact assessments, and conservation management plans.
• Develop design proposals for adaptive reuse and refurbishment of heritage properties.
• Coordinate with heritage authorities and local municipalities to navigate approvals.
• Prepare specifications for materials and construction methods suitable for heritage conservation.
• Liaise with contractors specializing in heritage construction and traditional techniques.
• Ensure interventions comply with heritage guidelines and conservation principles.

About the Role

Our client, an architectural firm with a strong focus on heritage conservation and adaptive reuse projects, is seeking a skilled Architectural Technologist to join their dedicated team in Soweto, Gauteng. This role is central to documenting, analyzing, and developing design solutions for historically significant buildings and precincts. You will work closely with conservation architects, heritage consultants, and clients to ensure that interventions respect the integrity and character of heritage assets while meeting contemporary functional needs. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the preservation and revitalization of Soweto, Gauteng's rich architectural heritage. The position requires full-time dedication at our Soweto, Gauteng office to ensure hands-on involvement with site investigations and project coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed condition assessments and photographic surveys of heritage buildings.

Requirements

• A National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Architectural Technology or a related field.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit, with a strong ability to produce detailed technical drawings.
• Experience with 3D modeling and rendering software is an advantage.
• Understanding of heritage conservation principles and South African heritage legislation (e.g., NHRA).
• Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
