Purpose of Role

The position is responsible for the Electrical (Light and Heavy current), mechanical repair and maintenance of all machinery and equipment on the Weir Isando site under the supervision of a qualified artisan, while gaining practical skills and knowledge required to become a competent Millwright. This includes but is not limited to Foundry, Machine shop and Rubber plant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Production & Maintenance: Attend and complete all theoretical and practical training modules as part of the apprenticeship; assist artisans with repairs, fault finding, and daily machine inspections; learn and apply basic PLC programming and automation to improve machinery and production efficiency.
  • Drawings & Design: Understand and interpret engineering machine drawings for maintenance tasks; compile and draw relevant sketches or designs as needed.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration: Work collaboratively with artisans, foremen, planners, and production staff; be open to giving and receiving regular feedback and value diverse perspectives.
  • Continuous Learning: Gain hands‑on experience in industrial automation and apply sound knowledge to enhance plant operations and production lines.
  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviours in support of our drive towards developing a world‑class safety culture.
