Job description
Overview

The Applications Solution Architect is responsible for leading the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performing technology solutions in the logistics and supply chain domain. This role is pivotal in shaping the organisation’s digital transformation journey by aligning IT initiatives with business goals and customer needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design end-to-end solutions for transportation, warehousing, freight forwarding, inventory, customs clearance, and other core logistics services.
  • Develop blueprints for technology systems that integrate with TMS, WMS, ERP, and customer-facing platforms.
  • Facilitate design workshops and architecture reviews with business and IT stakeholders.
  • Guide vendor selection and participate in solution evaluations and proof of concepts.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to define the long-term technology vision and roadmap for the organisation.
  • Lead the modernisation of legacy systems and migration to cloud-native architectures.
  • Drive adoption of emerging technologies (IoT, AI / ML, API-led integration) to optimise logistics workflows and enhance supply chain visibility.
  • Champion modular, reusable architecture principles and microservices strategies.
  • Define and maintain application architecture blueprints and roadmaps.
  • Ensure seamless integration between in-house and third-party platforms.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure adherence to design principles.
  • Ensure application designs meet compliance, security, and performance requirements.
  • Participate in architecture governance and solution review forums.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including operations, sales, IT, and finance, to gather business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Work closely with business analysts, developers, and delivery teams.
  • Engage with vendors and partners to evaluate and integrate new application capabilities.
Requirements
  • Matric – Grade
  • A bachelor’s degree Information Systems, or a related field; is preferred. TOGAF, Zachman, or similar architecture certification
  • 8+ years of experience in software development and / or solution Architecture, preferably within logistics, freight, or supply chain environments
  • Strong knowledge of technology stacks and integration technologies.
  • Experience with enterprise application integration and architecture frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise architecture patterns and integration strategies (e.g., EDI, RESTful APIs).
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and platform services (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Familiarity with logistics-specific systems : TMS, WMS, YMS, etc.
  • Strong documentation and solution modeling skills.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation abilities.
  • Ability to work across business and technical teams.
  • Understanding of supply chain concepts, including SCM, route optimisation, warehouse automation, and cross-border logistics.
