Application Engineer Mechanical Engineering AA / EE - East Rand

Job Purpose

Based on customer needs, promote and support the COMPANY know-how and value proposition in line with business strategy. Collaborate with the sales force to promote technical solutions, manage technical relationships with customers, and deliver innovative engineering and sustainability-driven solutions.

The role brings strong technical expertise into the market and involves design, management, and delivery of bearing arrangements, lubrication systems, condition monitoring systems, sealing solutions, and bundled offerings according to customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Support & Engineering
  • Provide technical assistance across the full range of COMPANY products and services.
  • Design and improve equipment to extend service life.
  • Perform cost estimates and calculations for quotations.
  • Re‑design or develop new solutions to address customer problems or integrate new COMPANY technologies.
  • Conduct bearing failure analyses (on‑site or at COMPANY) and provide detailed reports with recommendations.
  • Generate General Assembly (GA), layout, and conceptual drawings for quotation purposes.
  • Ensure effective delivery of COMPANY products, services, or bundled solutions.
  • Manage and measure suppliers of engineered solutions.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of COMPANY product developments and innovations.
Project & Service Delivery
  • Manage and deliver technical projects, ensuring timelines, costs, and quality standards are met.
  • Plan and optimise resource utilisation against project requirements, including cost control of engineered products.
  • Continuously develop and improve integrated service delivery capabilities.
  • Adhere to company policies and implement process improvements.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams, ensuring seamless service delivery.
  • Drive and support COMPANYs sustainability objectives.
Communication & Customer Relations
  • Maintain continuous communication with customers, distributors, and sales teams regarding project status and progress.
  • Deliver technical presentations and training to customers, distributors, and educational institutions.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with engineering and technical personnel at customer sites.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through effective problem‑solving, responsiveness, and technical support.
Market Intelligence & Business Development
  • Visit customers regularly to understand market trends, needs, and opportunities.
  • Contribute to market intelligence through engagement with the global Application Engineering community.
  • Use internal tools (e.g., C4C) to identify business opportunities and enhance understanding of the market.
  • Collaborate globally to develop business opportunities and achieve rapid results.
Accountability & Decision‑Making
  • Utilise analytical and engineering skills in daily decision‑making.
  • Escalate business‑critical information where appropriate.
  • Analyse data to prioritise work in line with operational requirements.
  • Participate in decision‑making with cross‑functional teams and distributors.
  • Make quick, informed decisions and respond effectively to operational demands.
Leadership & People
  • Act as a role model and ambassador for COMPANY values and behaviours : ethics, teamwork, empowerment, openness, accountability, and purposeful action.
  • Foster a positive, high‑performance team culture with collaboration, constructive feedback, and knowledge sharing.
  • Support and guide colleagues within the Application Engineering team.
Minimum Requirements
  • 23 years experience in technical support at a customer‑facing level.
  • 23 years experience in Product, Application, Project, or Design Engineering.
  • Knowledge of Engineering Draughting and related systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and administrative skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills (English).
  • Proven ability to interact effectively with customers and stakeholders.
Desirable
  • Experience across multiple technologies : bearings, seals, tribology, CoMo, lubrication systems, etc.
  • Experience with all COMPANY portfolios.
  • Membership of professional engineering associations.
  • Strong relationships within the engineering supply chain.
Qualifications
  • Minimum : BSc Eng / BEng / BTech / NHD in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Desirable : Project Management qualification; Registration with ECSA (or in progress).
  • High levels of concentration and adaptability required to manage varied daily tasks.
  • Self‑motivated, capable of independent decision‑making within delegated authority.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex data accurately.
  • Flexibility to handle unpredictable operational requirements.
  • Frequent domestic and occasional cross‑border travel.
  • Work conducted across multiple environments : office, workshop, customer sites, and field.
  • Presentations and meetings form a regular part of the role.
  • May occasionally require work outside normal working hours.

Health, Safety & Risk - Regular exposure to controlled risks in workshops and customer sites. Compliance with all safety procedures and use of PPE (safety boots, overalls, ear plugs, hard hat).
