Job summary

A leading chemical supplier in Cape Town is seeking a Part-Time Field Chemist to assist in marine and oil & gas operations. The role requires a BSc Chemistry or equivalent, with no prior experience necessary. Candidates must possess a valid driver's licence and be willing to work on an on-call basis. IMZAFA Chem and Lab is currently seeking Part-Time Field Chemists with flexible availability and a willingness to work on an on-call basis in the marine and oil & gas industries. The ideal candidate would be a student (Honours, Master’s, or Doctorate level) or an unemployed graduate with a passion for applied chemistry and fieldwork.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct confined space atmospheric testing for man entry and hot work.
  • Certify spaces for safe entry and/or hot work operations.
  • Participate in on-site inspections aboard ships, rigs, and cargo tankers.

  • BSc Chemistry, ND Chemistry, or equivalent. No prior experience required.
  • Valid driver's licence and own vehicle.

Important Notes

The marine, oil and gas industries maintain a strict zero tolerance policy for alcohol and drugs in the workplace.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) — including overalls, hard hat, boots, and gloves — will be provided.
